On 26 November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to appreciate the optimism of Indian-American entrepreneur and investor Balaji S Srinivasan regarding the investment environment in India.

Balaji’s response was a reply to a social media user who called him the ‘biggest cheerleader of India who does not stay in India’. Balaji elaborated that it was not about being a ‘cheerleader’ who has to ‘stay’ in a place to invest in it but instead about being an international investor looking for the best talent around the world and finding quite a lot of it in India.

In his long post, the investor expressed that one of India’s greatest strengths is its diaspora. Indians are willing and able to move anywhere, whilst the Chinese are increasingly not able to move because of the restrictions placed on them by their state. Westerners, on the other hand, are largely unable to move because they believe their societies to be the only ‘First World’ option.
